My Story
Natural Instincts Rabbitry was born on May 5th 2024, almost one year after adopting a beautiful, incredibly loving and friendly Polish rabbit that was named, Cocoa! Natural Instincts Rabbitry was founded by Linda Logue and Michael Logue after adopting Cocoa and falling in LOVE with tending this particular rabbit and sharing time with her.
Our little Polish Princess, Cocoa, was adopted around July of 2023. We visited a local Rural King one day and they had rabbits for sale. One was so CHOCOLATEY-looking we couldn't resist. We brought her home and bought a 2-story penthouse for her to reside in. She grew friendlier and friendlier and eventually even enjoyed our 2 small dogs' company as well as us! She was turning out to be such an Incredible pet rabbit, that we considered doing a rabbitry near the end of 2023. I (Linda) started researching rabbit breeds and what to do, such as breeding, caring and maintenance of a rabbitry, even though I have had some pet rabbits and nursed wild rabbits back to health in the past. Eventually stumbling across the Teal Stone Homestead YouTube page, I was impressed with the Creme d'Argent breed, and at the time they were on the endangered list and I thought, "what better breed to start with than one that could use repopulation?" By the time I found the closest pedigreed breeder that I could find, the breed was upgraded to the Watch list instead of the endangered list, but that didn't deter me. I still bought a trio, and a few cages, and we were on our way.
Next, we went to a local farm swap and saw this adorable almost pure white little fluff-ball Holland Lop that we call, "CottonBall" because he's just like a cotton ball!! As soon as we brought him home and let him out of his cage to run around our patio, Cocoa decided she really, and I mean REALLY, liked him!! She was banging agains the cage and standing up and scratching and biting at the door, so we let her out (she's really in charge here, lol). She ran right over to CottonBall and the "humping" began!! Close to 30 days later, she was building a nest and pulling fur because she really wanted to be a "mama!" Well, as fate would have it, that time didn't take.
I also saw this cutie-cute, extremely Beautiful little Holland Lop rabbit listed online in a local group. I showed that picture to Michael and we both said, she looked so cute, like a little bee! So, we ended up purchasing her and calling her, "Ms. Honey Bee" or "Ms. Bee" for short. She was so, so cute and what a little sweetheart! After a while, I started letting all 3 little bunnies run around in the outdoor enclosure together. For the most part, Ms. Bee avoided the other two humping all the time. haha. But, one day, Ms. Bee decided she wanted to allow CottonBall to hump her and the next thing we know, we're preparing a nest for our first litter when she was growing! CottonBall also got Cocoa the next week real good, and she had began making a nest, too. Next thing you know, we've got not one, but two beautiful sets of kits fathered by CottonBall! This was the very beginning of our journey breeding and growing our rabbitry.
